Forget canals and piles – Amsterdam is a city built on stories. Some of its most interesting, though, have been overlooked by history. We stroll through the spacious Plantage neighborhood to hear the untold stories of Amsterdam’s hidden history. This gives guests a nice cross-section of the city’s BIPOC, LGBT+, Jewish and women’s history.

The roughly two-hour walk starts at KIT and ends at Waterlooplein. Please wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather. In true Dutch fashion, we try to go rain or shine and cold or heat, though we will cancel and reschedule/refund if the weather looks severe.

Tours run:
Thursday-Sunday at 10am
Friday-Saturday at 5pm
Sunday at 3pm

If you’re interested in times outside of these and have a group of three or more, please contact us!

Highlights include:
  • Anton de Kom, badass author and new entry in the Canon van Nederland
  • Gracia Mendes Nasi, who revolutionized Amsterdam without ever seeing Holland
  • Maria van Antwerpen, an example of trans identity in the Dutch Republic

We have a minimum of 2 people per tour, so if you are having trouble finding a single availability at the time you want, it may be that you need to team up with a friend to start a tour at that time!

Although living in Amsterdam for a while, Elizabeth taught me a lot of new things and hidden places inside the city. There are a lot of tours in the city but this one is unique and has a very original perspective. I really recommend this tour!
