Is this the right tour for you?

See Amsterdam through the stories of the hidden badasses who helped create it. You choose one or several of the themes: women’s history, Jewish history, LGBT+ history or BIPOC history. You can also ask for an interest area, such as artistic, academic, leaders or warriors. The tour can be up to three hours and customized by pick-up/drop-off location.

Please wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather. In true Dutch fashion, we try to go rain or shine and cold or heat, though we will cancel if the weather looks severe.

We are closely monitoring the coronavirus numbers in Amsterdam. Should we feel that it is no longer safe to lead the tour, we will cancel the reservation and provide a full refund.

Example highlights
This would be some highlights from a route for a group of new visitors interested in women’s stories:
  • Cafe ‘t Mandje and the legend of the woman who opened the first modern gay bar in Amsterdam despite morality laws
  • The Oude Kerk and the story of the woman who fought to inherit Amsterdam
  • The Begijnhof and the tale of the Countess who fought for independence for women and merchants, only to see them turn against her
  • Rembrandtplein and the drama of the woman who started a class riot by lifting her skirt
  • Atria Institute on Women’s History and the inspiration for whom being the first Dutch woman to enroll in university and become a doctor was only the beginning
  • The Golden Bend and the chronicle of the poet who embodied its intellectual outpouring
  • The Golden Age theater and the scandal of a hidden love triangle.

Meeting Point

Flexible, based on the tour and your group’s needs
Elyzabeth designed an amazing tour for us in Amsterdam east. Our group was amazed by her vast knowledge, her passionate and engaging personality and of course the inspiring stories about the bad ass women in Amsterdam’s history!
If you want a different spin/perspective on the history of this amazing city, book a tour with Elyzabeth and learn about some little-known women and their impact. She takes great care to learn about the interests of her guests and is well equipped to tailor her commentary accordingly. A wonderful way to spend a few informative hours with a lovely and well-educated guide!
