Amsterdam’s world-famous Rijksmuseum has it all: Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Frans Hals. It also has some incredible female, LGBTQ+, Jewish, and BIPOC badasses hiding in plain sight. This tour encompasses both.
Our (wheelchair accessible) tour explores the Rijksmuseum through a modern lens. The art museum was built as a temple to Dutch history in the 19th century, but our understanding of that history has expanded since then. This tour explores the full breadth of Dutch and Amsterdam history, both the traditional figures and those often overlooked or misunderstood.
See the famous Dutch artists in a new light while also taking in some truly astounding works created by – and showcasing – the stories of women, LGBTQ+, Jewish, and BIPOC people in the Netherlands and beyond.
As you dig into the stories behind both famous paintings and often-overlooked objects, you’ll start to explore what makes an art museum. Who chooses the stories and what do that tell us about their time and ours? Our tour is designed to be a fun trip that gets you thinking.

Absolutely. In addition to the Gallery of Honor, which holds the celebrated Dutch 17th-century artists, our stops include three Van Goghs, the enormous Battle of Waterloo, and noteworthy canvases that sometimes get overlooked in the abundance of Rijksmuseum rooms!
It would take days to see every single display in the Rijksmuseum, so we’ve worked hard to build a route that shows both the notable artists and the pieces of Amsterdam’s story that are hidden in plain sight amongst the abundance of art.
