As you walk through the UNESCO World Heritage Canal Belt at your own pace, you’ll self-curate the content by choosing from four focused storytelling themes featuring the history of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Jewish figures, LGBTQ+ pioneers, and women’s history.

Accessibility is important to us. Our self-guided tour includes audio, images, maps, and text, ensuring it is accessible and simple to navigate. However you want to learn, we’ve got you covered.
To further encourage you to take your time, your tour is available for 2 weeks after you first unlock it!
Good to know: If you open every single story, play every single audio recording, and expand every single image, it’s about 100MB. The amount of data you use depends on how much you explore within the app.

Booking is easy! Just follow the instructions once you select the “Let’s book it!” button:
* If you have a larger group, go through the booking process for each set of 4, and create a unique password for each booking.
** You have two weeks to use the self-guided tour once you’ve first unlocked it. For example, if you purchased the tour on January 1, 2025. You then unlock it on December 1, 2025 at 12:00pm. The tour is available until December 14, 2025 at 11:59am.
Each location starts with an overview story, just to get you grounded.
Then, select any or all of the four themes to learn about specific badasses nearby.
We even provide a suggestion if you’re short on time or can’t decide.
Find the link to the web app in your confirmation email from FareHarbor, our ticketing platform. (If it’s not there, be sure to check your spam folder.) Once there, use the email address you entered while booking, as well as the password you set, and select “Add Tour”.
Good to know: If you purchased the tour from our site (rather than through a third-party platform, such as GetYourGuide or Tripadvisor), skip the Booking Reference field, since it doesn’t apply to your purchase.

If you purchased the group tour option, you can share the link and password with 3 phones other than yours (so 4 in total).
The tour is a web app and runs on your phone’s browser – Chrome, Safari, etc. – so there’s no app to download (and no data tracking!).
After purchasing the tour, your booking confirmation will include the link to the web app, so be sure to keep an eye out for that email from FareHarbor, our booking provider.
If you follow our suggested route, the total walking distance is approximately 3.6 km/2.24 miles, and the tour typically takes 1.5–3 hours, depending on your pace. (If you were to explore every part of the app, that’s up to 6 hours of content!)
You can spread it out over several days, since your access lasts for two weeks after unlocking the tour.
We planned our route as a great way to explore the heart of Amsterdam, without being too exhausting while still covering a lot of ground. We think it’s a pretty solid path.
That said, do your own thing! Simply “activate” all 12 locations by skipping through the stories, and then you can go back and do them in whatever order you see fit.

While all locations are wheelchair and stroller accessible, some areas may require minor adjustments. Amsterdam’s historic layout can present challenges for mobility aids and wheelchairs, but our partner, Able Amsterdam, provides valuable accessibility information and helps us plan inclusive group tours.
All you need is a smartphone with internet access. You will need to use your phone’s data to access the content of the tour and navigate the map, so make sure it’s charged!*
