Every winter, light art illuminates the iconic canals of Amsterdam. It’s a cozy way to bring radiance to the darkest months of the year. But did you know that throughout the city’s history, ordinary Amsterdammers risked their lives to bring hope in the darkest hours? This year’s theme for the Amsterdam Light Festival is legacy, and these heroes are truly a legacy that Amsterdammers should be proud of.
To celebrate this history and art, we’ve become official partners of Amsterdam Light Festival to offer Light Up the Dark, a 90-minute walking tour. The tour will look at some of the light installations along the canals and stop for stories of courageous Amsterdammers whose actions continue to affect us today.
As our city heads into the dark of winter during a challenging time in the world, this walking tour aims to bring hope and inspiration. Guests will feel a ray of light, both from the light art and from the stories of Amsterdammers who changed the city and the world for the better. It’s a new way to see the Amsterdam Light Festival and also get a new perspective on the city.
We are offering the tour in English and in Dutch on alternate nights. (Wij geven deze rondleiding in het Engels en in het Nederlands op afwisselende avonden.) So, join us for the stories of inspiring Amsterdammers, from Resistance heroes to medieval protesters, while seeing the canal belt in a new way.
